Travelling – Drawing

Artspace artist John Brady at The Dock:
Travelling, Drawing

Friday 4th July official opening 6pm at The Dock / Carrick on Shannon
Exhibition continues to Saturday 30th August.

John Brady’s recent work is grounded in a commitment to seeing and encountering people and places in fresh, unmediated ways. In 2012/13, Brady took a year out from his art lecturing job to travel around the world and to draw. He posted 22 sketchbooks back to his home in Galway over the course of the year. For Brady, drawing becomes a social instrument as much as a graphic one; it provides a medium through which he ‘talks’ with people as he travels and a means of taking bearings in changing geographies.

All Things Integral

Solo Show by Artspace artist Lisa Sweeney
Reception this Friday 6th Dec, 6 – 8 pm opened by John Behan RHA
at Norman Villa Gallery

Lisa Sweeney’s Exhibition All Things Integral continues the themes she has been developing over her artistic career. She says “I am intrigued by the banal, the everyday, the often overlooked and undervalued elements within the landscape and our perception of it”.

Her motifs which include her well known crows and rooks are the means by which she conveys her vision of the world making “unimportant things important”. These paintings are a result of much thought and deliberation, they are heavily worked and reworked with every element carefully balanced.
